Sembach Elementary School Anchored 4 Life team leads successful blanket drive

Students from the Anchored 4 Life team at Sembach Elementary School prepare donated blankets during a schoolwide blanket drive in Sembach, Germany. The student-led initiative collected more than 100 blankets to support patients.

SEMBACH, Germany — Students at Sembach Elementary School recently demonstrated the power of service and leadership through a successful Anchored 4 Life blanket drive supporting patients in transit.

The initiative was led by Andrea Fletcher, school counselor and Anchored 4 Life leader, and Senior Airman Mimmie Lammey, in collaboration with Elizabeth Spaulding, fourth grade teacher and Anchored 4 Life co-leader, and Cassie Bennett, the school’s art teacher.

The blanket drive was organized to provide comfort and warmth to patients during medical transport. Organizers said the project helped connect students to the real-world needs of service members and patients moving through the medical system.

To date, the campaign has collected more than 100 blankets, reflecting the generosity and support of the Sembach Elementary School community and the surrounding installation.

Anchored 4 Life student leaders played a central role in planning and carrying out the initiative. Students created promotional materials, established collection sites across the school, and organized a friendly schoolwide challenge to encourage participation. They also collected data to track donations and compare participation at each drop-off location.

Organizers said the project gave students an opportunity to develop leadership skills while learning the value of empathy and community service.

“This initiative has shown our students what it means to lead with empathy and purpose,” organizers said. “Their dedication inspired our entire community to rally behind a meaningful cause.”

School leaders noted that the blanket drive demonstrates how students, educators, families, and the military community can work together to support those in need.
