It’s been a great week at Sembach! Our teachers and students continue to work hard and make great use of their learning spaces. Students also enjoyed visiting the school store and having popcorn today—part of our First Friday tradition each month, supported by our PTO.

As we head into the coming days, we want to share a few important reminders and upcoming events:

  • Kindness Week continues as we focus on spreading positivity and appreciation throughout our school community.
  • Valentine’s Grams are on sale—families can choose from several options, including candy grams, 3‑D printed axolotls, class packs, goodie bags, and teacher grams.
  • Monday, February 9, is a Teacher Professional Learning Day. There will be no school for students.
  • Friday, February 13, is a school holiday. There will be no school for students.
  • Monday, February 16, is Presidents’ Day. No school for students.
  • Tuesday, February 17, is a Teacher Professional Learning Day. No school for students.
  • Students will return to school on Wednesday, February 18.
  • This creates a five‑day weekend for students and families. We hope everyone enjoys this time together.
  • Health reminder from Nurse Lee: We are seeing an increase in illnesses. Please ensure your child is well before returning to school to help keep all students healthy and safe.

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support. We truly appreciate the role our families play in helping make Sembach a safe, caring, and successful learning community.

Mr. Andrew Gann, Principal

A Message From Nurse Lee

Keep Your Child Home When:

We’ve been seeing a higher number of illnesses this season. Keeping sick children at home not only helps prevent the spread of illness but also supports their recovery.

DoDEA School Nursing Services provides the following guidelines for when students should be kept at home:

Temperature greater than or equal to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The student must be fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medication for 24 hours (a complete school day) before returning to school.

  • Severe uncontrolled coughing or wheezing, rapid or difficult breathing, and coughing lasting longer than five to seven days.

  • Other symptoms interfering with learning or participation, such as abdominal pain; earache; itchy, painful eyes; light-sensitivity; or discharge from the nose necessitating frequent wiping.

Actively vomiting or having diarrhea.

  • Episodes of vomiting in the past 24 hours. A student must remain home until vomiting resolves (no further vomiting for 24 hours).

  • Frequent, loose or watery stools compared to the student's normal pattern; not caused by diet or medication.

An illness presenting contagious symptoms

  • Measles, mumps, rubella, (German measles), chicken pox, pertussis (whooping cough), and influenza. A student must remain home until determined to be not infectious by a medical care provider.

  • Thick discharge from eye, necessitating frequent wiping and may be accompanied by pain, redness and light sensitivity. Student must remain at home until symptoms clear or completion of 24 hours of medical provider-prescribed ophthalmic treatment.

Skin Conditions:

  • Blister-like lesions (impetigo/staph/MRSA infections) developing into pustules with weeping and crusting. A student must be medically evaluated and remain home for at least 24 hours after treatment and remain home until determined not to be infectious. Lesions must be covered for school attendance.

  • Ringworm lesions must be covered for school attendance.
