Sembach Elementary School marked Fire Prevention Week, held annually from Oct. 8-14, with an exciting and educational event that brought fire safety to life for students. Firefighters from U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz were on hand to teach students about the essential tools and techniques used to fight fires, making the experience both fun and informative.

Throughout the event, students learned firsthand how firefighters combat different types of fires using water, foam, powder, and carbon dioxide (CO2). Each demonstration offered insight into the various methods used to extinguish flames, depending on the type of fire and situation. The highlight of the day for many students was the opportunity to engage in hands-on lessons, allowing them to try out equipment under the guidance of trained professionals.

In addition to learning about firefighting tools and fire prevention, students had the chance to explore a fire truck, climbing aboard to see the inside of one of the most important vehicles in emergency response. The interactive nature of the event helped reinforce critical fire safety principles in an engaging and memorable way.

The event was coordinated by Fire Inspector Barbara Reidenbach, who worked closely with the school to ensure that students gained a thorough understanding of fire prevention and safety.

“It’s important for kids to learn these safety lessons early on,” said Reidenbach. “We want them to be aware of the dangers of fire, but also understand the incredible work that firefighters do to protect their communities.”

Sembach Elementary’s Fire Prevention Week celebration not only provided students with valuable knowledge but also fostered a deeper appreciation for the role of firefighters in keeping them safe. As the students eagerly participated in the activities, they left with a better understanding of fire safety practices and an experience they will not soon forget.

By engaging with the local fire department and learning through hands-on activities, Sembach Elementary School’s Fire Prevention Week celebration demonstrated the importance of safety education in creating a well-prepared and informed community.
